Mathnasium of West Chester, an international franchise offering after-school math educational programs, will host an “Around the World” Math Competition for students in grades 4th – 8th on Saturday, April 5th in West Chester, starting at 1 pm.
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, and each student will receive a prize just for participating in the event. Each grade level will be limited to the first 30 students who register for this competition. The cost per student is $30. The registration deadline for the event is March 31st, 2008. The competition will last one hour for each grade level and is open to any student in any school district at their respective grade levels.
Students will answer math questions translated from math textbooks from countries such as India, Germany, China, Japan, France, Canada, Israel, Czech Republic, and several others. The competition will give students a chance to see what their peers are learning in math around the world.
“This competition is about giving students a flavor of what other students in foreign countries are learning in the field of mathematics,” said Jim Morrison, Director of Mathnasium of West Chester. “Students should realize that we live in a global economy, and they need to know how their foreign peers are progressing in math compared to what they are learning in the United States.”
Parents will receive a summary of how their child did on questions from the various countries as well as how their child placed against other students.
Parents who are interested in this event can contact Mathnasium of West Chester at (513) 759-6284 to receive a registration form. Mathnasium of West Chester is located at 7588 Voice of America Centre Drive in West Chester.
